Mid-December 2024 Newsletter
Hopefulness
The waning daylight, Canada geese skittering across the sky, and the shift to cool weather take us to Thanksgiving and beyond. This time of year is the beginning of winter reflections, prayers, and looking forwards. As for any person around the globe, I am thankful for family and friends, for my health, for the gift of freedom and time together. And, I am thankful for you who have come to the winery, or visited our events. You make this passionate/remarkable/ venture possible.
While I am an incurable romantic, I am also a scientist and pragmatist. Growing grapes and creating great wine from Oklahoma soil continues to be a romantic endeavor of mine. However, the scientist in me continues to face, alter, experiment, and be challenged with the realities of Oklahoma viticulture and climate. Each vintage, each bottle of wine is different from the prior year’s batch, and we continue to improve on what we have learned over the past 10 years… from vineyard management to barrel selection. The great effort in using as few sulfites/ preservatives as possible, is a worthy challenge. Come and explore that journey with us.
I am hopeful that wine, when locally grown and responsibly made is both enjoyable and better for you than less expensive alternatives. Come in and learn how we do things differently, directly from vine-to-glass and share the journey.
So, raise a glass with me this month, maybe more than one. Let us come together where love, humanity and respect bind us and toast, “To your health,” “Zum Wohl,” “Salud,” “Sláinte.” We hope for the best in each other.
Bob Wickizer, Winemaker
Closing Dates for 2024
We will be closed from Monday, December 23rd – Thursday, January 2nd to allow our staff time with their families. Our first open day in 2025 will be Friday, January 3rd. Happy Holidays from all of us here at Pecan Creek Winery!
Advent
In Christian practice, Advent is the four-week season before Christmas where we anticipate the coming of the Christ child on December 25. This year, we have developed an Advent calendar observing every day of the season (except for “dry Mondays”) with a different Pecan Creek Wine. Food pairings are suggested for each wine. Why not have fun with our religious observance? Go to the website HERE to see how all our different wines can pair with foods.
Purchase two cases of any wine or combination in Advent and receive 20% off.
Epiphany Nights
Why should New Orleans have all the fun? Let’s get together to dispel winter’s darkness out in the boondocks of Muskogee. Every Saturday night from January 11 – March 1, we will have a different “King’s Cake” paired with one of our wines. We will have a free charcuterie board. The whole season culminates on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) March 4th when we will launch our first Mardi Gras party with wine, beer, music and revelry. Costumes are encouraged.

NEW PRODUCT – Wine Vinegar
Every now and then a wine that has not been bulked out with sulfites will turn to vinegar. This year we are putting it in decorative bottles and selling it. It makes a great gift, and you can use it for cooking to make salad dressing, sauces, and to acidify any meat dish. Some folks use it to marinade food prior to barbecue. Come to the winery and try some.

Staying at the Winery
Our four-bedroom Air BnB house next door is now open and available for overnight guests. The house is completely furnished and accommodates up to 8 people in four bedrooms. We have already had several groups stay with us, and they all gave very positive reviews.
We also have eight 50-amp electrical hookups for RVs. Four of them have water available as well. We love our guests and visitors from all over the world stopping for a great winey experience right here in Oklahoma.
